[edit] Metamedia Page
This page is about technologies and media that support da Institute. Please note the "discussion" tab on the wiki page, and this can develop organically and hopefully, legibly.
Forseeable topics here include preparing multimedia for presentations, video/audio/stills documentation acquisition and distribution, outreach via distance learning and blogs, collaboration, getting help, and more.
I'll start this off. [RoBo]
[edit] Video/Audio Recording
We've already discussed recording our sessions, so I assume we're all cool with that. I'm interested in cutting a 25-30 minute piece, and the combination of analogue and digital steps used will affect post-production and equipment.
[edit] Digital
What I'd like to know is, who plans to bring the camera, will it have firwire, and will it have analog video input capabilities? do you plan to come out to lunch or hang around while I capture the tape in real time to my laptop? Also, we meet for about 2 hourse of more. Are we going to shoot 2 tapes per week?
[edit] Analog
I can capture analog video directly to MPEG4 compression with practically no time limit and at nearly the same frame size at miniDV. Does anyone have an analog 4 input video switch and software to edit such a format? It will be made available as video on-demand online, so the final formatting is highly variable.
[edit] Mixed Reality
Mixed Reality is a mixture of Real Life (RL) and Virtual Reality (VR). The intended VR platform is the online, multi-user, real-time world of Second Life (SL). One of GIT's members, Evonne, has set up an exhibition with the New Media Consortium's (NMC) SL presence. This video http://www.nmc.org/sl/2006/06/12/seriously-engaging-movie/ tells more about NMC in SL. GIT already has something striking to say in the field of informal education, and after only 2 sessions, I know I've found my homies. I am interested in exploring the GIT model in Mixed Reality, and the aforementioned video will play a very preliminary role in this journey. Let's grab some sushi and jack in.
